Having completed his LLB(Hons) degree at Brunel University, Gerard was admitted as a Solicitor in 1991 and undertook his early training at the London Trade Union Firm of Pattinson & Brewer.
Thereafter, he practised as a Solicitor in Sussex until 1995 before setting up his own firm, which has been recognised as one of the leading criminal law firms in the South East.
Gerard has developed and has jealously guarded a strong reputation and profile based on success, quality, flair and plain hard work. He specialises in high end criminal defence cases, involving the most complex and serious offences including murder, serious fraud, regulatory, health and safety, terrorism and sexual offences, which have received both national and international media interest.
In particular Gerard has carved out a niche in those cases with an international dimension involving international Fraud and Money Laundering matters. This work has seen him defending cases prosecuted by bodies such as the Serious Fraud Office, National Crime Agency, Medicine & Healthcare Regulatory Authority, Health & Safety Executive, Trading Standards and HMRC.
Gerard is widely known and respected in dealing with the most high profile cases and has received plaudits from judges, the Bar and clients for his unmatchable client skills.
He is recognised as one of the leading criminal experts in the South by Chambers and Partners. The 2024 edition commented: “Gerard is tireless in his support of clients; he commands deep respect across the spectrum.”
The firm is also recognised as one of the leading criminal practices in the South East by Legal 500.
Gerard has provided numerous presentations on all aspects of his professional and practice life to other professional groups eg. giving lectures to lawyers in both this country and abroad and has participated with and sponsored the local universities in Sussex for future and aspiring lawyers.
